Portugal Ranked Top 3 in FIFA Global Futsal Standings
Portugal remains a global powerhouse in futsal, securing top-three positions in both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Rankings released today from Zurich. Despite recent championship heartbreaks, the nation continues to trail only Brazil and Spain at the summit of the sport.
Men’s Ranking: Portugal Holds Firm in Second
The Portuguese men’s national team retains its status as the second-best team in the world. This ranking follows Portugal’s impressive run to the European championship final, where they ultimately finished as runners-up. The men’s top five remains unchanged, with Brazil maintaining its grip on the number one spot and Spain following closely behind Portugal in third.
The rankings also showed positive momentum for several other Portuguese-speaking nations. Angola climbed to 54th, Mozambique rose to 78th, Timor-Leste reached 101st, and Macau improved to 116th. Cape Verde remained steady at 133rd.
Women’s Ranking: A World Cup Legacy in Third
On the women’s side, Portugal solidifies its place as the third-ranked team globally. The ranking reflects the team’s historic performance in the 2025 World Cup—the first-ever FIFA World Cup for women’s futsal—where they reached the final but were defeated by Brazil.
Brazil leads the women’s hierarchy, with Spain occupying the second spot just ahead of the Portuguese “Seleção.” Among other Portuguese-speaking territories, Macau saw a significant boost, climbing to 54th place, while Angola slipped to 85th.
