Cape Verde Industrial Sector Sees Strong Growth in early 2026
Cape Verde’s industrial sector is showing strong signs of momentum, with wages rising by 5% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year. The latest figures, released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), highlight a broader trend of growth across the archipelago’s manufacturing and production landscape.
Employment and Productivity on the Rise
The increase in compensation is part of a wider recovery reflected in the Industrial Production Index (IPI). According to the INE, the growth in wages was accompanied by a 3.8% rise in the employment index and a 3.7% increase in total hours worked. These figures suggest that industrial companies are not only paying more but are also expanding their workforces and increasing operational time.
Robust Industrial Production
Overall, the Industrial Production Index surged by 6.5% year-on-year during the first quarter. This significant jump underscores a period of intensified activity for the nation’s industrial units. Meanwhile, companies also reported a modest uptick in financial performance, with turnover growing by 0.5% compared to the first quarter of 2025.
The data stems from the Monthly Industrial Production Survey, which gathers direct information from businesses operating throughout Cape Verde to provide a comprehensive snapshot of the country’s economic health.
