World Cup Hero Bubista Named RS Berkane Head Coach
BERKANE, Morocco — Fresh off a historic run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Cape Verdean mastermind Bubista has officially stepped into the club management arena. Moroccan powerhouse RS Berkane announced today that they have secured the 56-year-old tactician on a two-season contract valid through 2028.
A Legacy of Success in Cape Verde
Bubista, born Pedro Brito, arrives in Morocco following a transformative six-year tenure at the helm of the Cape Verde national team. His leadership reached a pinnacle this summer when he guided the “Blue Sharks” to their first-ever World Cup appearance. The team didn’t just participate; they impressed global audiences by reaching the round of 32, where they pushed football giants Argentina to the limit before falling in extra time.
A New Challenge in the Botola Pro
This move marks Bubista’s first stint as a head coach outside his home country. While he previously served as an assistant coach in Angola over a decade ago, the RS Berkane job represents a significant step into one of Africa’s most competitive domestic leagues.
He joins a club with high ambitions. RS Berkane captured their first-ever Moroccan league title in the 2024/25 season and maintained their momentum by finishing as runners-up in the most recent campaign. Bubista is expected to provide the tactical edge needed to return the “Orange Boys” to the top of the podium.
A League of International Tactical Minds
Bubista enters a league increasingly defined by international coaching talent. The Moroccan top flight, known as the Botola Pro, currently features a strong Lusophone contingent, including three Portuguese managers: Paulo Sérgio at WAC Casablanca, Pedro Gonçalves at FAR Rabat, and Rui Almeida, who recently took the reins at defending champions Maghreb Fès.
With his proven ability to over-perform on the world stage, Bubista’s arrival signals RS Berkane’s intent to dominate both domestically and in continental competitions.
