Grêmio Signs Jovane Cabral: Cape Verde Star Joins Until 2027
Grêmio has officially bolstered its attacking ranks with the signing of Cape Verdean international forward Jovane Cabral. The Brazilian top-flight club announced today that the 28-year-old winger has committed to the Porto Alegre side on a contract running until the end of 2027.
The move sees Cabral reunite with Portuguese manager Luís Castro, who is currently tasked with steering the club back up the Brasileirão standings. Cabral arrives in Brazil as a free agent following the conclusion of his contract with Estrela da Amadora at the end of the 2025/26 season.
World Cup Momentum
The signing comes on the heels of a historic summer for Cabral, who was a key figure in Cape Verde’s debut appearance at the 2026 World Cup. During the tournament, the “Blue Sharks” stunned the football world by holding eventual champions Spain to a 0-0 draw in the group stages. The African side eventually bowed out in the Round of 32 after a hard-fought battle against Argentina.
A Track Record of Success
Cabral brings a wealth of European experience to Grêmio. He rose to prominence at Sporting CP, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s 2020/21 Portuguese league title victory. His career has since spanned several major European leagues, including loan spells at Italian giants Lazio and Salernitana, as well as a stint with Greek powerhouse Olympiacos. He spent the last two seasons prominently at Estrela da Amadora.
With 30 caps and three goals for his country, Cabral is expected to provide immediate firepower and veteran leadership. He joins a squad currently sitting in 16th place in the league, fighting to distance itself from the relegation zone in a season dominated by Abel Ferreira’s Palmeiras.
New Chapter in Brazil
The addition of Cabral is a clear statement of intent for Grêmio. By securing a player with high-level European and international pedigree, Luís Castro hopes to ignite a climb up the table and stabilize the club’s position in the Brasileirão.
