World Cup 2026: Portugal vs Colombia at Hard Rock Stadium
Miami Garden’s Hard Rock Stadium, a venue synonymous with Super Bowl spectacle and high-stakes drama, is set to take center stage once again. On Saturday, the iconic home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins will host the critical World Cup Group K finale between Portugal and Colombia.
High Stakes for Portugal in Miami
The match marks the fourth World Cup fixture for the Florida stadium, following a string of high-scoring encounters including a 3-0 masterclass by Brazil over Scotland. For Portugal, the mission is clear: they need a victory to leapfrog Colombia and claim the top spot in the group.
Portugal enters the fray with four points after a mixed start to the tournament—a -1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo followed by a dominant 5-0 thrashing of Uzbekistan in Houston. Colombia, meanwhile, sits comfortably at the top of Group K with a perfect six points, having already secured their place in the knockout stages.
A Venue Built for Legends
Since opening in 1987, Hard Rock Stadium has evolved into one of the world’s most versatile sporting cathedrals. Having undergone extensive modernizations over the last two decades, the 65,000-seat arena has hosted six Super Bowls, most recently in 2020. Its resume extends far beyond American football, having hosted the MLB World Series in 1997 and 2003, WrestleMania XXVIII, and the prestigious Miami Open tennis tournament.
Crucially for the visitors, the stadium is familiar ground for Colombia. It was the site of the 2024 Copa América final, where Argentina edged out the Colombians in a 1-0 thriller. Portugal will be hoping to ensure history repeats itself by keeping the Colombian attack at bay.
The Road to the Final
The 2026 World Cup—the first to feature an expanded 48-team format—will continue to rely heavily on the Miami venue. After the group stage concludes, Hard Rock Stadium is scheduled to host a Round of 32 clash, a quarter-final, and the third-place playoff.
The match between Portugal and Colombia kicks off on Saturday at 7:30 PM local time (12:30 AM Sunday in Lisbon), with Australian referee Alireza Faghani officiating. With Group K leadership on the line, the lights of Miami have never been brighter.
