Sérgio Godinho Withdraws from MED Festival; Vitorino Sets Stage

Portuguese music legend Sérgio Godinho has been forced to cancel his upcoming performance at the MED Festival in Loulé due to an “insurmountable physical issue.” The singer-songwriter was set to make his debut at the renowned world music festival this Thursday, but announced today that he must postpone his appearance until the festival’s next edition.

In a heartfelt message shared across social media, Godinho expressed his disappointment. “What was supposed to be my debut at the MED Festival will, unfortunately, have to be postponed,” he stated. “An insurmountable physical issue forces the return to Loulé with my dear ‘Assessores’ to be held during the next edition.”

Vitorino Steps In with 50th Anniversary Celebration

Stepping in to fill the vacancy on the festival’s opening night is another icon of Portuguese music: Vitorino. He will bring his celebratory show, “50 Years of Semear Salsa ao Reguinho,” to the stage.

The performance honors Vitorino’s 1975 debut album, originally produced by Fausto. The classic record was recently re-released with fresh arrangements and a star-studded list of collaborators, including Jorge Palma, Rui Veloso, and Cuca Roseta.

A Global Lineup in Loulé

The 22nd edition of the MED Festival kicks off this Thursday in the historic center of Loulé and runs through Sunday. Despite the last-minute change to the lineup, the festival remains a powerhouse of international talent, featuring a diverse roster of global stars:

  • Goran Bregovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
  • Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 (Nigeria/France)
  • Salif Keita (Mali)
  • Tiken Jah Fakoly (Ivory Coast)
  • Asian Dub Foundation (UK)
  • Arooj Aftab (Pakistan)
  • Los Van Van (Cuba)

What’s New at MED 2026

Organizers have expanded the festival grounds this year to accommodate more fans and cultural activities. New additions include the “MED Lounge” and the full integration of the Loulé Municipal Market, which will host continuous programming throughout the weekend. A new entrance has also been added near Largo de S. Francisco to improve crowd flow.

Beyond the music, the festival will introduce the “MED Conference Cycle,” inviting prominent figures from the arts and culture sectors for public discussions.

Tickets and Admission

Three-day passes are available for 40 euros, while daily tickets for Thursday through Saturday are priced at 15 euros. In a tradition of community accessibility, the festival’s final day on Sunday, June 28, offers free admission to the public. Children aged 12 and under can attend the festival for free on any day.
