Seu Jorge to Narrate Cape Verde World Cup Documentary

Brazilian music icon Seu Jorge is lending his voice to tell the extraordinary story of Cape Verde’s rise on the global stage. The singer and songwriter has been announced as the narrator and executive producer of “Um Milagre no Atlântico” (A Miracle in the Atlantic), a documentary chronicling the nation’s historic journey to its first-ever FIFA World Cup.

A Personal Connection to the ‘Blue Sharks’

For Seu Jorge, the project is more than just a sports documentary; it is a homecoming. The artist revealed that his great-grandmother was Cape Verdean, and narrating the film allowed him to explore a heritage that has long influenced his life.

“Cape Verde has always been present in my history, even before I understood the full dimension of that connection,” Seu Jorge said in a statement. “Narrating this documentary was a very special way to reconnect with my roots, with the strength of a people who transformed challenges into identity and resistance.”

Beyond the Pitch

Produced by Enrico Saraiva and Pedro Soulé, the film aims to position Cape Verde’s footballing success as a mirror of the country’s national spirit. The narrative frames the “Blue Sharks'” qualification for the 2026 tournament in the United States not just as an athletic feat, but as a defining moment for Cape Verdean identity and resilience.

“It is a story that talks about football, but, above all, it talks about belonging,” the musician added. “Seeing Cape Verde achieve a conquest of this magnitude has a meaning that goes far beyond sports.”

The Road to History

The documentary features intimate access to the team’s key figures, including head coach Bubista and veteran defender Stopira—the man who scored the legendary goal that secured their qualification. It also highlights pillars of the squad like goalkeeper Vozinha and forward Dailon Livramento.

By blending behind-the-scenes footage, personal archives, and interviews filmed across the Cape Verdean islands and various diaspora communities, the project connects the beautiful game with the country’s rich music, Creole language, and collective memory.

Release Date

The Cape Verdean national team has already begun making waves on the pitch, notably drawing with powerhouse Spain in their World Cup debut. Fans will be able to relive the journey behind that success when “Um Milagre no Atlântico” is released in late 2026.
