CPLP Council of Ministers Meeting in Dili Moved to August

The highly anticipated meeting of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) Council of Ministers, originally set to coincide with the organization’s landmark 30th anniversary, has been pushed back to late summer.

New Date Set for August

Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel announced on Tuesday that the XXXI Ordinary Meeting will now take place on August 19 in Dili, East Timor. The high-level gathering was initially scheduled for July 17.

Speaking during a parliamentary hearing before the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities, Rangel confirmed the new date but did not provide a specific reason for the one-month delay.

A Milestone Under East Timor’s Leadership

The meeting carries significant weight as the CPLP prepares to celebrate three decades of cooperation between Lusophone nations. The organization includes Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and East Timor.

East Timor currently holds the organization’s rotating presidency. The nation stepped into the leadership role following the suspension of Guinea-Bissau, which was sidelined from the group’s proceedings following a military coup on November 26, 2025.

About the CPLP

The CPLP serves as a vital multilateral forum for political, economic, and cultural cooperation among nations where Portuguese is an official language, representing over 250 million people across four continents.
