Sete Sóis Sete Luas Festival: Culinary Stars in Cape Verde
The renowned Sete Sóis Sete Luas International Festival has launched a three-month celebration of gastronomy and cultural exchange across Cape Verde. The “Blue Food Roadshow,” which runs through November 24, brings together elite European chefs and local talent to highlight regional flavors and artistic diversity.
A Global Culinary Exchange
The festival features an impressive roster of international culinary experts, including French chefs Sophie Reigner and “master pastry chef” Julien Noray, Spain’s Maria Vidal, Luxembourg’s Charles Biwer, and Portugal’s Vasco Coelho Santos. These experts will lead a series of “gastronomy laboratories” and training activities aimed at elevating local products and sharing innovative techniques.
In the capital city of Praia, the chefs will collaborate directly with students and faculty at the Cape Verde School of Hospitality and Tourism, fostering the next generation of the country’s hospitality leaders.
Island Hopping Through Flavor
The program extends its reach to the Sete Sóis Sete Luas cultural centers on the islands of Maio, Santo Antão, Fogo, and Brava. Residents and visitors can expect a sensory experience featuring guided tastings and training sessions, often paired with live concerts to create a multi-disciplinary cultural atmosphere.
A highlight of the schedule includes an artistic residency by Portuguese chef Vasco Coelho Santos on the island of Fogo, set to take place between November 16 and 18.
Supporting Local Growth
The initiative is organized by the Sete Sóis Sete Luas network with significant support from the European Union (EU) in Cape Verde. The project also relies on partnerships with the municipal councils of Fogo, Brava, Maio, and Ribeira Grande de Santo Antão.
With a legacy spanning over three decades, the Sete Sóis Sete Luas International Festival operates in more than 30 cities across 10 countries. Its mission remains the promotion of dialogue between diverse communities and the celebration of global cultural heritage through the arts and gastronomy.
