Seguro Ends Cape Verde Visit: Educators & Health Honored
In a final, heartfelt gesture before concluding his three-day state visit to Cape Verde, President António José Seguro honored the educators at the Portuguese School in the capital city of Praia, praising them as the architects of the future relationship between the two nations.
A ‘Work of Excellence’ in Education
During a community gathering held in the school’s main courtyard, President Seguro called for a standing ovation for the teaching staff. He described their daily efforts as “seeds” planted for the benefit of future generations.
“The work that the teachers do here is a work of excellence,” Seguro told the audience. “They water these seeds every day so that coming generations can continue the spirit of cooperation we see today. They value our language and help take Portuguese further and further.”
The audience, composed of teachers wrapping up the school year, local entrepreneurs, and Portuguese expatriates, responded with enthusiastic applause. The Portuguese School of Cape Verde serves as a vital cultural and educational bridge, hosting approximately 1,100 students in Praia and another 400 at its Mindelo campus.
A Milestone in Healthcare Cooperation
Before heading to the airport for his return to Lisbon, the President also visited the Agostinho Neto Hospital. There, he met with the recipient of Cape Verde’s first-ever kidney transplant—a medical milestone achieved earlier this year with the direct support of Portuguese medical teams.
Reflecting on his visit to the hemodialysis center, Seguro noted that such breakthroughs represent the highest form of diplomacy. “It is these examples that make us believe in human beings,” the President said. “This shows how cooperation is relevant and how politics, when it achieves results, serves its most noble purpose: helping people have a better life. That is the true meaning of our presence in Cape Verde.”
Strengthening Ties
The three-day official visit served to solidify the historic and diplomatic bonds between Portugal and the archipelago. By highlighting advancements in both education and healthcare, President Seguro emphasized a partnership built on tangible results rather than just political rhetoric.
