Serial Robbery Suspect Detained in Lisbon
A 34-year-old man suspected of terrorizing Lisbon shops, homes, and the metro system has been ordered to remain in pre-trial detention. The Public Security Police (PSP) announced the arrest today following an investigation into a series of thefts that resulted in losses totaling approximately 5,800 euros.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Command located and apprehended the suspect on Thursday. Following an initial judicial interrogation, a judge applied the most severe coercive measure, keeping the man in custody as the legal process moves forward.
‘Kova M’ Youth Festival Breathes Life into Cova da Moura
The 11th edition of the “Kova M” Youth Festival returns to Amadora this week, transforming the Cova da Moura neighborhood into a hub of cinema, music, and reflection. Organized by the Moinho da Juventude Cultural Association, the festival runs from Tuesday to Saturday.
This year’s cinema program serves as a “space for memory and resistance,” featuring films that explore the independence struggles of Guinea and Cape Verde, the history of slavery in São Tomé and Príncipe, and the legacy of the Tarrafal concentration camp. Modern suburban culture will also be in the spotlight, with documentaries focusing on Lisbon’s hip-hop history and the cultural richness of the diaspora.
Free film screenings will be held at the Moinho da Juventude Courtyard from July 28–30. The festival will conclude with live music at the Cova da Moura Sports Complex on July 31 and August 1, featuring Creole rap artist Nex Supremo, Morena Santana’s funaná rhythms, and beats by DJ Igor Costa.
Sesimbra Father Held for Sexual Abuse of Daughter
In Sesimbra, a 48-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged sexual abuse of his 15-year-old daughter. The Setúbal Judicial Police (PJ) revealed today that the suspect is in pre-trial detention following his appearance in court on Saturday.
According to the PJ, the crimes occurred over a two-year period within the family home after the victim began living with the suspect. The man faces charges of aggravated child sexual abuse and sexual abuse of a dependent minor.
