Cape Verde Expands Fleet to End Inter-Island Flight Delays

Cape Verde’s state-owned airline, Cvsky, announced a significant expansion of its fleet on Wednesday, aiming to resolve the chronic flight irregularities that have long plagued travel between the archipelago’s islands.

Boosting Inter-Island Capacity

The airline is immediately increasing its operational fleet to three aircraft. This growth is set to continue into the new year, with a fourth aircraft scheduled to enter service in January. To ensure reliability across the network, Cvsky confirmed that one aircraft will be dedicated as a backup for “full network protection,” minimizing disruptions for travelers.

The latest addition to the fleet, an ATR 72-60, is being integrated today and will undergo the final phase of its certification process before beginning regular operations.

Connecting the Archipelago

Reliable air travel is vital for Cape Verde, a nation spread across ten islands with diverse economic and social needs. The archipelago currently operates four international airports—located in Boavista, Praia, Sal, and São Vicente—alongside three smaller airfields in Fogo, Maio, and São Nicolau.

In its official statement, Cvsky emphasized that this consolidation of the fleet is a strategic move to “strengthen the capacity to respond to mobility needs between the islands.” For residents and tourists alike, the additional aircraft represent a long-awaited solution to the country’s history of inconsistent flight schedules and limited seat availability.
