Cabo Verde Airlines Adds New ATR 72-600 for Island Travel

Cape Verde’s domestic carrier, Linhas Aéreas de Cabo Verde (LACV), has taken delivery of the first of two new ATR 72-600 aircraft, signaling a major step forward in the modernization of the archipelago’s inter-island travel.

Expanding the CVsky Fleet

Operating under the commercial brand CVsky, the airline announced on Monday that the aircraft was acquired through a leasing agreement with Avation PLC. The addition is part of a strategic fleet expansion designed to replace older equipment and increase overall capacity.

The ATR 72-600 is a highly efficient turboprop capable of seating between 70 and 80 passengers. Once the second aircraft arrives, it will join two existing ATRs of the same model, bringing the airline’s total specialized inter-island fleet to four.

Boosting Tourism and Reliability

The new plane is currently undergoing final preparations and is scheduled to touch down in Cape Verde by the end of October. According to the airline, the goal of this expansion is to bring much-needed “predictability” to domestic air connections, which are vital for the residents of the island nation.

Beyond serving the local population, LACV stated that the modernized fleet will create “better conditions for the development of domestic tourism,” making it easier for international visitors and locals alike to navigate between the country’s diverse islands.

What’s Next?

With the first aircraft secured, the company is now awaiting the delivery of the second unit to complete this phase of its renewal plan. The arrival of these aircraft marks a turning point for Cape Verdean aviation, promising fewer delays and a more comfortable experience for passengers traveling across the Atlantic archipelago.
