Beatriz Felício to Debut at Fado Festival in Cape Verde
The soulful sounds of Portuguese Fado are coming to the heart of Cape Verde this summer. Fado singer and composer Beatriz Felício is set to make her debut performance in the country as part of the International Fado Festival, which will take over the city of Praia from June 17 to 19.
Widely regarded as one of Portugal’s most exciting musical rising stars, Felício will take the stage on June 18 at the Jorge Barbosa National Auditorium. During the performance, she will showcase tracks from her self-titled debut album, bringing the emotive and traditional sounds of Lisbon to the Cape Verdean capital.
A Celebration of Culture and Community
This year’s festival follows the theme “Fado and the Neighborhoods,” exploring the deep-rooted connection between the music and the urban landscapes that birthed it. Beyond the headline concert, the festival offers two additional cultural events at the Portuguese Cultural Center:
- June 17: A screening of the documentary “Do Bairro” (From the Neighborhood) by filmmaker Diogo Varela Silva.
- June 19: A “concert-conference” led by fado singer Rodrigo Costa Félix, titled “Fado and the Neighborhoods,” blending live performance with historical insight.
A Global Stage for Portuguese Heritage
The International Fado Festival was launched in 2011 by production companies Everything is New and Alto e Bom Som. Since its inception, the festival has grown into a prestigious global event, supported by institutional partners to promote the Portuguese language and culture.
The current edition is more ambitious than ever, spanning 21 cities across 15 countries. By bringing Beatriz Felício to Praia, the festival continues its mission of bridging Lusophone cultures and celebrating the enduring spirit of Portugal’s most iconic musical genre.
