New €6M Training Center for Machinery Operators Opens in Beja
A new €6 million specialized technical training center for heavy machinery and earthmoving operators officially opened its doors in Beja today. The facility, launched by Sociedade Técnica de Equipamentos e Tractores (STET), aims to bridge the critical labor gap in Portugal’s infrastructure sector while creating 30 direct jobs in the Alentejo region.
Addressing the Skills Gap
Designed to serve 500 trainees annually, the center will provide more than 10,000 hours of specialized instruction each year. STET emphasizes that the infrastructure is a direct response to the “shortage of qualified professionals” currently hindering the industry.
The curriculum goes beyond basic operation, offering programs in industrial equipment efficiency, preventive maintenance, and lifecycle optimization. To prepare workers for the modern job market, the center integrates advanced technological resources, including artificial intelligence and innovative teaching methodologies, all centered around practical, real-world experience.
Investing in the Interior
Tiago Isidoro, General Manager of STET, highlighted that the decision to build in Beja was strategic. “This center reflects our commitment to developing the country’s interior and preparing future generations of professionals,” Isidoro said. “We want this space to facilitate the entry of young people into the labor market and establish itself as a meeting point for companies, professionals, and educational institutions.”
The facility will serve as a hub for equipment and technology demonstrations, hosting initiatives for customers, partners, and schools. By locating the center in Alentejo, STET aims to bring specialized training directly to a region experiencing significant dynamism in infrastructure projects.
A Hub for Innovation and Industry
The inauguration marks a major milestone for STET, a company specializing in the sale and rental of heavy machinery, generators, and marine engines. With existing operations in Lisbon, Porto, Leiria, Madeira, the Azores, and Cape Verde, the new Beja facility cements the company’s presence in southern Portugal.
As Portugal continues to invest in large-scale infrastructure, the Beja center is expected to become a vital pipeline for the next generation of technicians and operators, ensuring the industry has the human capital necessary to meet future demands.
