Major Drug Bust in Praia: Cape Verde Police Arrest Two

In a targeted crackdown on narcotics distribution, Cape Verde’s Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested two men and confiscated over 1,400 doses of illicit drugs during a Friday raid in the capital city of Praia.

Arrests in Palmarejo Neighborhood

The operation took place in the Casa Lata Palmarejo neighborhood, where officers caught the suspects, aged 42 and 45, in the act of drug trafficking. According to an official statement released by the PJ, the seizure included a significant quantity of cocaine and other substances, totaling approximately 1,425 individual doses.

Evidence Seized

Beyond the narcotics, investigators recovered several items used in a large-scale distribution operation. Officers seized a precision scale and various materials used for the processing, cutting, and packaging of the drugs.

Legal Consequences

The two suspects appeared before a judge for their initial interrogation following the weekend raid. While the investigation remains ongoing, the court has released the men under strict conditions, including a formal prohibition from leaving the country.

This latest bust underscores the ongoing efforts of the Cape Verdean authorities to combat organized drug trafficking within the island nation’s urban centers.
