The flag of Cape Verde

The flag of Cape Verde is made up of four colors in the shape of a rectangle.

The color blue takes up most of the flag and represents the sky and the sea that bathes the islands of Cape Verde. The end of the most predominant blue is the part of the flag on top.

The color white represents peace. And by the “irony” of fate, Cape Verde has managed to maintain the peace it has always wanted, being one of the most peaceful and stable countries in Africa.

Red represents the efforts of the people and the blood spilled by the fighters of the homeland.

The color yellow represents the ten islands of Cape Verde, arranged in a circle, a sign of unity.

The flag of Cape Verde was adopted on January 13, 1992. The process of creating the flag was put out to public tender, with the aim of finding a design that represented Cape Verde’s new democratic era.

Pedro Gregório Lopes’ proposal was unanimously chosen by the competition jury.
The flag of Cape Verde is a multifaceted symbol that represents the soul of the Cape Verdean nation and is one of the country’s most important national symbols.
