Sara Tavares: A voice we miss

Sara Tavares, a complete artist who has marked the history of Portuguese and Lusophone music. Her unique voice, undeniable talent and inspiring personality have made her one of the most loved and respected singers in the world.

Sara Alexandra Lima Tavares, or simply Sara Tavares, was one of the most important Portuguese singers of her generation.

Of Cape Verdean descent, Sara enchanted audiences with her powerful and expressive voice, which blended soul, gospel, Cape Verdean music and other musical styles, and this earned her a place as one of the most important voices in contemporary Portuguese music.

A successful career

At 16, he won the Chuva de Estrelas contest and represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Chamar a Música”. In 1996 she released her first album, “Sara Tavares & Shout!”, which introduced her to the world as a talented and promising artist.

In 1999 he released the album “Mi Ma Bô”, which won him the Golden Globe for Best Performer. She also won Best Female Voice at the Cape Verde Music Awards in 2011, as well as other CVMA honors. And this year – 2024 – the late singer received an “emotional” tribute for her talent and her quick passing.

In 2005, Sara Tavares released the album “Balancê”, which established her as one of the leading voices in Portuguese-speaking music. In 2009, he released the album “Xinti”, exploring new sounds and reaffirming his musical versatility. And in 2017 he released his last album, “Fitxadu” in an emotional farewell that left a rich and inspiring musical legacy.

Recognition and talent

Sara Tavares was more than just a singer, she was a complete songwriter and artist who dominated the stage with her striking presence and contagious energy.

She was known for her ability to connect with audiences in a deep and moving way, conveying her emotions through music. Her unique and powerful voice was one of her greatest assets, able to move through different musical styles with mastery.

Beyond music

Sara was also an activist who fought for social justice and equality. He used his platform to defend important causes such as the rights of women, children and immigrants. She was an inspiration to many people, inside and outside Portugal, for her strength, talent and commitment to a better world.

It should be remembered that Sara Tavares died at the age of 45 in the same city where she was born, Lisbon, from a brain tumor more than a decade ago.

However, although his death has left a huge void in the world of music, his work and talent continue to inspire new generations of artists.

Tavares will always be loved by many, and perhaps mostly by Cape Verdeans, who appreciated his music, his lightness and his good energy that “filled” the stage and the audience and infected everyone.
