Grito Rock Cabo Verde: the festival that breaks musical boundaries
There is no doubt that Cape Verde is and has increasingly been the scene of great musical encounters.
In 2014, the first edition of the “GRITO ROCK” festival was created to celebrate broader musical genres and shake up the country’s music styles.
Since then, the festival, which always takes place in mid-March, has been a real hit in the capital city of Praia. This event, which largely promotes alternative and independent music, also gives space to a plurality of musical rhythms familiar to rock, such as punk, reggae, hip-hop and electronic music.

Through this festival, which usually takes place over two to four days, people from different countries, of all ages and social backgrounds, come together to enjoy rock music and diversity in the most diverse voices of national and international artists.
Open to all audiences, this festival, which sometimes allows free admission to some shows, basically promotes diversity, fraternization and the meeting of cultures. What’s more, there are other parallel activities such as dance performances, workshops, lectures, an environmental campaign, art exhibitions, craft fairs and local gastronomy.
Since its first edition, the Grito Rock festival has put the country and Africa on the route of the international festival of the same name, which takes place in various parts of the world.
Dozens of renowned international bands from countries such as Portugal, Brazil, Spain/Canary Islands, Morocco, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Ecuador and Angola have played at this festival, which is pure rock energy.
The Grito Rock Festival, known for revealing new talents in Cape Verdean music, is undoubtedly an unmissable event for anyone who likes rock music and Cape Verdean culture.
