Safety and security

Cape Verde is considered a safe country to travel to and is one of the most stable countries in Africa, with a functioning legal system. However, petty crime also occurs here, especially in the cities and on the busy beaches.

As a general rule, it’s better to leave valuables at home when traveling abroad and not show money openly. Also, keep money, ID cards and other important documents safe, if possible directly on your person.

It is also advisable not to walk around at night and to avoid traveling by land at night and, as always, to avoid demonstrations and always follow the instructions of the local security forces.
