Cape Verde Fuel Prices: November Dip vs Yearly Highs

Fuel prices in Cape Verde saw a slight reprieve at the start of November, according to the latest figures released Saturday by the nation’s regulatory agency. However, despite the month-over-month drop, citizens are still facing costs that are significantly higher than those recorded this time last year.

Breakdown of Price Adjustments

Motorists will see a modest reduction at the pump. The price of gasoline fell by 4%, now retailing at 189.3 escudos (1.72 euros) per liter. Diesel saw a smaller decline of 2.4%, bringing the cost to 185.8 escudos (1.69 euros) per liter.

Meanwhile, the price of butane gas remained stable compared to October. This stability is the result of a direct intervention by the Cape Verdean government, which implemented a measure to freeze prices and prevent further spikes in cooking gas costs.

The Long-Term View: A Sharp Year-Over-Year Surge

While the November dip offers some immediate relief, the broader economic picture remains challenging. Like much of the global economy, Cape Verde has been grappling with an upward price spiral that began in February, culminating in record-breaking highs last month.

The year-over-year comparisons highlight the severity of the inflation:

  • Gasoline: Up 49% compared to November 2025.
  • Diesel: Up a staggering 71% compared to the same period last year.
  • Cooking Gas: A 12.5-kilogram bottle is now 9% more expensive than it was a year ago.

The regulatory agency continues to monitor international market trends as the archipelago navigates the ongoing volatility in global energy prices.
