Carlão Announces 2027 ‘Vidas’ Concerts in Lisbon and Porto
Portuguese music icon Carlão is set to take center stage in April 2027 for two landmark concerts at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon and Casa da Música in Porto. Titled “Vidas” (Lives), the shows mark his first-ever solo headline performances at these prestigious venues, celebrating a career defined by constant evolution and transformation.
More Than a Retrospective
According to his management, the performances on April 17 in Lisbon and April 29 in Porto will be “unique, custom-created” experiences. Rather than a simple stroll down memory lane, “Vidas” aims to bridge the gap between Carlão’s storied past and his vibrant present.
“I don’t want to do a retrospective in the classic sense,” Carlão explained. “I’m more interested in joining different eras and seeing how they all remain present. The world changes, we change, but much of what we have lived stays with us. ‘Vidas’ is born from that idea.”
A Legacy of Reinvention
The announcement follows the release of his March 2026 album, Quinta-Essência 75/25. The record serves as a sonic bridge across 30 years of musical history, encompassing his time as “Pacman” in the legendary hip-hop group Da Weasel, as well as his work with Algodão, 5-30, and Os Dias de Raiva.
The album features a “who’s who” of producers who have shaped his musical identity, including his brother João Nobre (Jay from Da Weasel), Fred Ferreira, Branko, and the duo Stereossauro and DJ Ride. The result is a diverse tapestry of sound that weaves together rap, spoken word, electronica, hardcore, and Cape Verdean rhythms.
Returning to His Roots
While the new material leans heavily into social criticism and introspection, it also sees Carlão embracing his heritage. The album includes the Creole-language track “Nair ki Fla,” a song originally recorded for a project featuring the poetry of his cousin, Cape Verdean President José Maria Neves.
Fans can expect a show that reflects this duality—an artist who remains one of Portugal’s most influential voices by honoring where he came from while relentlessly looking forward.
