Azores Airlines Adds 350 Extra Flights for Winter 2026/27

Azores Airlines (SATA Internacional) is set to significantly boost its domestic operations for the Winter 2026/27 season, adding 16 weekly flights between mainland Portugal and the Azores archipelago. This expansion will result in approximately 350 additional flights throughout the season, providing a major lift to regional air mobility.

Strengthening the ‘Azores Mission’

Tiago Santos, President of SATA, emphasized that the reinforcement of domestic routes is a cornerstone of the airline’s long-term strategy. “This represents an important step in consolidating our strategy and reflects the spirit of the ‘Azores Mission’: serving the archipelago, ensuring greater proximity to the regional market, and strengthening the relevance of Azores Airlines,” Santos stated in a press release.

The increase translates to eight additional round-trip frequencies per week compared to the previous winter. The airline will now operate over 100 weekly flights connecting the mainland to the islands, with departures from Lisbon, Porto, and Faro serving São Miguel and Terceira, as well as routes from Lisbon to the islands of Faial and Pico.

Specific Route Enhancements

The added capacity will be distributed across key existing routes:

  • Lisbon/Ponta Delgada: Three additional weekly frequencies
  • Lisbon/Terceira: Two additional weekly frequencies
  • Porto/Ponta Delgada: Two additional weekly frequencies
  • Porto/Terceira: One additional weekly frequency

Strategic Redistribution of Fleet

SATA explained that this surge in domestic capacity is made possible by a strategic redistribution of its fleet. The airline plans to suspend several European routes—specifically to Paris, Barcelona, and Frankfurt—during the winter months. By pivoting these resources back to domestic corridors, the carrier aims to better align its operations with seasonal market demand and regional needs.

The winter schedule will also maintain essential connections between the Azores and Madeira. Additionally, the airline has adjusted flight times on several routes to offer passengers “more convenient and attractive options” than in previous years.

Global Reach Continues

Despite the focus on domestic growth, Azores Airlines will remain an international player. Throughout the winter season, the carrier will operate a total of 170 weekly flights across 15 routes. This includes the continuation of its transatlantic connections to North America and flights to Praia, Cape Verde.
